VANCOUVER, B.C. –  Animal Mother Films is proud to announce the casting of newcomer Raylene Harewood , to star as Charlene, a young woman pursuing her dreams of becoming a stand-up comic, in the independent feature All Joking Aside.  Brian Markinson will play Bob, the jaded former comedian, whom she befriends after he heckles her off the stage at her very first open mic.

Set in New York City, the film is slated to begin production in Vancouver in February 2019, and is targeting a Fall 2019 release.

Harewood has appeared in roles on TV shows such as iZombie, Reverie, and Lucifer.  She is repped by DaCosta Talent Management.  Veteran actor Markinson’s credits have seen him starring alongside Tom Hanks in Charlie Wilson’s War as well as parts in Mad Men, Godzilla, and most recently Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce.  He is repped by The Characters Talent Agency.

Director Shannon Kohli stated, I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with two very talented actors like Brian and Raylene, and I am looking forward to seeing how they bring these compelling characters to life”.

All Joking Aside is a feature-length comedy film about the barriers women face in the entertainment industry, told through the story of one young woman committed to beating the odds and achieving her dream of becoming a stand-up comic. It’s 2018, and despite making up more than half of the world’s population, women still only count for about 10% of the performers at comedy clubs. If we accept that women are just as funny as men, the question becomes why are there not more female comics, and what can we do about it?
